WEDDINGTON CASTLE - An Online History

NUNEATON TOWN - "The Good Old Days" by Peter Lee

Nuneaton was - and is - the primary town in the vicinity of Weddington and has been highly influential on the development of Weddington. The owners and residents of the Castle would have had close links with Nuneaton. Indeed, Weddington was formally included in the Parish and Borough of Nuneaton under the Borough of Nuneaton (Extension) Order 1931, which came into operation on the 1st April of that year. This section features a series of articles by local historian Peter Lee, which shed light upon the fascinating history of this important Town, and therefore give a unique context to the wider history of Weddington's Castle. Click on the links below to open these up as PDFs*.

There is also an interesting film on YouTube about the River Anker. This has some fascinating insights into the history of the River and irts relationship with Nuneaton (including regular flooding!) and features a nice section on the Anker as it passes through Weddington Meadows. Many thanks to the producer, Patrick Woodcock, for providing this link.
